The Agarrobo tree is native to northern Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia. It is a large shady tree that thrives in the desert conditions of the Atacama where I was in residency during the month of April 2024. The seeds are used to make flour and syrups . The tree traditionally provided a major source of food for the indigenous Likan Antay people and is still used for food and medicinal purposes.
